Rochford is a town located in Essex, England, located in the Southend borough of Essex. It is a small market town, with a population of approximately 14,000 people, and is situated approximately 32 kilometres east of London.

Rochford was originally a Saxon settlement and the name Rochford is derived from the Old English words ‘roc' meaning ‘deer' and ‘ford' meaning ‘river crossing'. The town was first mentioned in print around the year 1220, when it was called ‘Rochesford', and was part of the royal manor of Hockley. Its name was later changed to Rochford sometime around the 15th century.

Rochford was historically an agricultural town and was famous for its production of hops, which were used to make beer, and for its market garden produce. The town was also an important centre for weaving and lace-making, and was home to a number of lace-making factories. Rochford was also home to a number of other industries, including engineering and paper-making.
