  • Shopping – Brightlingsea has a vibrant shopping scene, with a number of independent boutiques, gift shops and cafes. The town's historic high street has plenty of interesting shops, as well as a selection of eateries, pubs and cafes to explore.
  • Art & Culture – Brightlingsea is home to a thriving art and culture scene, with a number of galleries and exhibitions in the area. There are also plenty of local events and festivals, including the popular Brightlingsea Music Festival.
  • Historic Sites – Brightlingsea has plenty of historic sites to explore, including the ruins of the 12th century St Leonard's Chapel, the Grade II listed Brightlingsea Town Hall and the remains of the old Colne Point fort.
  • Birdwatching – Brightlingsea is a great spot for birdwatching, with a wide range of species to be seen. The Colne Estuary is an RSPB Reserve, with over 60,000 birds recorded in the area.
  • Fishing – Brightlingsea has some great spots for fishing, with plenty of different types of fish to be caught. There are a number of fishing clubs in the area, as well as boat hire and river fishing.
  • Nature Reserves – Brightlingsea is home to a number of nature reserves, with a wealth of interesting wildlife and flora to discover. The Colne Estuary is a great place to explore, as well as the nearby Mersea Island Nature Reserve.
  • Golf – Brightlingsea is a great spot for golfers, with a number of courses in the area. The town's golf course is situated on the banks of the Colne Estuary, and offers stunning views of the river and the surrounding countryside.
