Rochford is a town located in Essex, England, located in the Southend borough of Essex. It is a small market town, with a population of approximately 14,000 people, and is situated approximately 32 kilometres east of London.

Rochford was originally a Saxon settlement and the name Rochford is derived from the Old English words ‘roc' meaning ‘deer' and ‘ford' meaning ‘river crossing'. The town was first mentioned in print around the year 1220, when it was called ‘Rochesford', and was part of the royal manor of Hockley. Its name was later changed to Rochford sometime around the 15th century.

Rochford was historically an agricultural town and was famous for its production of hops, which were used to make beer, and for its market garden produce. The town was also an important centre for weaving and lace-making, and was home to a number of lace-making factories. Rochford was also home to a number of other industries, including engineering and paper-making.

The town experienced a period of rapid growth during the 19th century due to the arrival of the railway in 1884. This enabled the town to become part of the London commuter belt and made it a popular destination for day trippers and holiday makers. The town grew to become an important market town and its population increased throughout the 20th century.

Rochford is home to a number of historic buildings, including St. Andrews Church, which was built in the 15th century and is the oldest building in the town. The churchyard contains a number of graves belonging to prominent local families, including the Graves family. The town also contains the Anchor Inn, which dates back to the 15th century, and the former Rochford Hall, which was built in the 17th century and is now a hotel.

Rochford is also home to a number of parks and open spaces, including the Rochford Recreation Ground, which is located in the middle of the town, and the nearby Rochford Country Park, which contains open grassland, woodland and wetlands. The country park is also home to a variety of wildlife and is a popular area for walking and cycling.

Rochford is a popular destination for visitors, with a number of attractions, including the Rochford Museum, which is housed in a 16th century building and contains a variety of artefacts and exhibits on the history of the town. The town also contains a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a number of events and festivals, such as the annual Rochford Regatta.
